Aloha! I'm Lexi Doto. I'm 13 years old and I'm in 8th grade. I live in San Carlos, California, and even though I don't live in Hawaii, when the fires broke out in Lahaina, I knew I needed to help Hawaii. My family and I visited Maui right before the fires hit because we know people who live down there. We always visit them in the summer, so when I heard about the fires, I couldn't stop thinking about all of the people who lost their businesses and homes. If you've been to Hawaii, you know that the culture there is so rich, and you instantly feel welcome. When I went to Hawaii, it felt like my second home, and to think that the Banyan Tree, a 151-year-old tree, which I watched the 4th of July fireworks under, was burned, was heartbreaking.

I created Aloha Art in 2023 after the Lahaina Wildfires devastatingly destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses in Hawaii on August 8th, 2023. People needed help, and still do, which is why I am using my art to create products in which all proceeds will be completely donated to the non-profit organization, East Maui Animal Refuge. They are a rehabilitation sanctuary for injured and orphaned animals. And after the wildfires, they had more animals to tend to. Since many people gave to the more popular and more advertised organizations, I wanted to find one that was in need, that may not be as well known.
